Glider Rides

Glider Rides and Sailplane Rides over South Lake Tahoe Gliding over Lake Tahoe in a sailplane is one of the most breathtaking, serene, and life altering attractions the area has to offer. The place to go for glider rides is Soar Minden at the Minden-Tahoe Airpor t, a short 30 minute drive from South Lake Tahoe.

The process involves the glider being launched from a tow-plane at about 4,000 feet, and having the air currents take you up over 10,000 feet. The gliders are extremely efficient at staying aloft, and the sport has a great safety record.

Soar Minden offers a mile-high 40 minute guided flight over Lake Tahoe, and a 60 minute flight over nearby, Emerald Bay. These flights can handle either one or two passengers: an impossibly romantic excursion. For those of the more adventurous spirit, they also offer an “acrobatic” flight: an exhilarating 35 minute run for one passenger that swoops in and out of the Tahoe coves.
